Welcome to Roots & Bridge Publishing, where stories connect.

Roots & Bridge was founded at the end of 2023 with a clear, twofold vision—true to our name.

We believe stories begin with roots: the cultural memories, languages, and lived experiences immigrants carry with them. And we believe stories also build bridges—between past and present, heritage and new beginnings, and between people who may have never met, but recognize themselves in one another.

Our early children’s titles, including the bilingual bedtime story Today I Am a Soybean and Niara: First Day at School, were created by parents seeking meaningful, culturally grounded reading experiences for their children. These books continue to find their place in Toronto bookstores and family homes, supporting language learning and emotional growth.

Today, our focus expands.

Our newest publication, Unframed: Canadian Immigrant Artists Anthology 2025, marks a significant step forward for Roots & Bridge. This book is not for children—it is for readers, collectors, and cultural observers.

Featuring works by immigrant artists from diverse backgrounds, the anthology pairs a carefully curated visual design with deeply personal narratives behind each artwork. It explores identity, displacement, resilience, and creativity—revealing how art becomes a language when words alone are not enough.

More than an art book, this anthology is a living record of cross-cultural dialogue and personal journeys. It reflects who we are as immigrants, as creators, and as members of a shared cultural landscape.

At Roots & Bridge, we publish stories that remember where we come from—and imagine where we can meet.

We are proud to introduce Canadian Immigrant Artists Anthology 2025:

Unframed

Unframed is the first volume of the Canadian Immigrant Artists Anthology.

It captures a rare moment in creation—the space just after the first mark is made, before identity and meaning are fully defined. In this in-between state, artists reflect on migration, memory, and belonging, offering perspectives shaped by lived experience across cultures.

Featuring immigrant artists with roots in Mexico, Serbia, India, China, Trinidad, and beyond, Unframed brings together visual works and personal narratives that reveal how Canada is seen, felt, and reimagined through immigrant eyes.

This book marks the beginning of a growing dialogue—one that will continue to unfold in future volumes.

"May this publication be a humble yet heartfelt effort to add to and uncover elements that can help build a more plural and just society."

—Gustavo Artigas

"It's taken m e years to realize that I was trying to connect with my roots through each painting, colour choice, and brush stroke. The details are very deliberate and meticulous, as if I'm trying to conjure up something lost in the years that have gone by."

—Kris Cvetkovic

"I was holding on to the past but I realized it might be interesting to focus on where I was, to tell the stories of the people I had met, my new sister, and this new country t o which I now belonged."

—Keerthana Jhutty

"My work now seeks to hold what slips away: the feeling of family, the taste of childhood, the rituals we carry with us as immigrants."

—Parmeet Arora Bori

"It reminded me of my own journey, how I've had to move through confusion, contradiction, and the heaviness of being misunderstood. But like the lotus, I'm trying not to carry the muck with me. I'm trying to rise above it and grow into something fuller, more whole."

—Melissa Boodoo
